Ageing with social rights: a message from MEP Heinz K. Becker

Mr. Heinz K. Becker, only representative of a senior citizens’ organisation in the European Parliament, is giving a short talk on how can Europe contribute to offer the best social conditions for all generations.

Mr. Becker deplores that age discrimination is still present in all areas of society – from the health sector to employment and finance. As a Member of the European Parliament and co-chair of the Parliament Intergroup on Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, he is committed to ensure that the digitalisation of society does not prevent any citizen to participate in society and stands strong against poverty in older age.

“Let’s fight together against age discrimination so that people throughout Europe can self determine as they age!”

MEP Heinz K. Becker

Currently on the European policy agenda are two major initiatives in which Mr. Becker is involved:

  1. the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR), building on 20 key principles around equal opportunities in the access to the labour market, fair working conditions and social protection, and
  2. the Pan-European Pension Product (PEPP), aiming to give EU citizens a new option for good value and safe voluntary supplementary pension saving.
